Introducing the IPDS Team

Marcel SchaererMarcel Fernando Schaerer is the President of International Professional Development Services (IPDS, L.L.C.). He is recognized as a leading authority on workplace language training and Latino/Hispanic cultural issues impacting communication in the workplace.  He comes with impressive credentials, having worked as a trainer and consultant for many companies throughout the States of California and Nevada.

With more than 20 years in education and training, Marcel Fernando offers expertise in a wide variety of workforce training and professional enrichment topics—including enhancing communication skills for customer service, workplace visual communication and supervisory skills development.  His solid background in these areas emanates from his varied work experience.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Nevada, Reno.

In addition to his extensive training experience, he has earned a fine reputation for implementing competency-based training programs, delivering effective diversity and customer service workshops, and creating collaborative business partnerships.

Sylvia SchaererSylvia R. Schaerer, B.S., P.H.R. is the Organizational
Development/Human Resources Strategist for International Professional Development Services (IPDS, LLC). Ms. Schaerer has worked as human resources manager, trainer and consultant for many companies throughout the states of Nevada and California. Most recently, she worked as Training Manager for the MGM Grand University, overseeing the research, coordination, development, implementation, and evaluation of the University’s training programs, which included management training, MGM MIRAGE upward mobility programs, diversity training, ESL, Workplace Spanish, and other cutting-edge training initiatives. Under her expert guidance, MGM MIRAGE met the 2004 diversity strategic planning goal, which was assigned to the organization’s Human Resources Council.

A forward-thinker by nature, Ms. Schaerer enjoys a fine reputation for implementing result-oriented training programs for executive, supervisory and management level staff, as well as line-level employees.  During her professional career, Ms. Schaerer has been successful in creating community collaborative efforts and business partnerships.  Ms. Schaerer holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management from the University of Nevada, Reno, and she is a nationally certified Professional in Human Resources (P.H.R.) by the Human Resource Certification Institute (H.R.C.I.), Washington, D.C.

Ms. Schaerer has lived both in South America and the United States, and travels frequently to Europe with her husband, Marcel, and three children. They both have made Nevada their home for over 25 years.

Karla SullivanKarla Águila Sullivan is the Marketing/Training Specialist for IPDS. She is pursing her degree at UNR in Secondary Education, with a specialty in Spanish and ESL (English as a Second Language). Through IPDS she has gained much experience in the human resources development field by working with adults in the workplace. She has helped develop and implement language training programs with a cultural focus in mind. Her diverse background experience has been beneficial in applying pedagogical practices into workplace training for a diverse audience.

Karla has worked as an interpreter and translator in a variety of subjects and situations for over the past six years. She aids in the management of the Reno office and is in charge of IPDS’ interpreter/translator database.

Karla is originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, but grew up in South Lake Tahoe where she worked for a crisis center as an advocate, educator, and community liaison. Her bilingual and bicultural background have proven to be effective in reaching out to the Hispanic/Latino population, and in helping bridge the language and cultural gaps that impact communication in the workplace.

 

Raquel MartinezRaquel Martinez Raquel R. Martinez is the office manager and task coordinator for International Professional Development Services (IPDS). Ms. Martinez has an Associate of Arts degree in general studies with a concentration in Business Management from Truckee Meadows Community College. She also has teaching credentials from the State of California.

In her professional career, Ms. Martinez assisted with the development and implementation of a curriculum for multicultural groups for a cosmetology school, as well as with conflict resolution programs for public middle schools in Salinas, California, where she grew up and attended college pursuing a degree in child development.

Ms. Martinez has worked in management for 20 years, primarily in the beauty industry and the last six years in the hospitality industry. She has worked with youth groups - planning, coordinating, and managing their projects. Ms. Martinez’ multicultural background and bilingual capability put her in a unique position to contribute to the effectiveness of IPDS’ training programs.
